THE BEST OPERATING SYSTEM: LINUX vs FREEBSD vs WINDOWS
Benchmark comparing CPU performance between Linux (Ubuntu 23.10, NixOS 23.05, Chimera Linux, Clearlinux), FreeBSD 13.2, and Windows 11. Tested Firefox 118 and Brave Browser based on Chromium 118.
Why?
Modern operating systems shares a lot of similarities and nowdays the browser is the most used app, Firefox 118 and Brave based on Chromium 118 are widely used apps
Why these Linux Operating systems ?
- Ubuntu 23.10 (without snapd) is the most poular Linux Desktop and it has updated dependencies (similar to Debian, Linux Mint, Fedora, Archlinux)
- NixOS is the most hyped immutable Linux, it can be used as a rolling release or as a point release.
- ClearLinux is most optimized Linux operating system (for Intel, but I'm using AMD)
- Chimera Linux is "most alternative" non-GNU Linux operating system, it uses MUSL instead GLIBC and dinit instead of systemd, but it runs fine GNOME.
I also chose GNOME 45 on Wayland as a desktop environment where possible (not on FreeBSD because it's outdated), it is the most used and modern DE on Linux.
